92B Acland Street, St Kilda

When it comes to Mexican food, the following comes to mind -  tapas, tapas, tapas; or maybe not. This hidden Mexican gem is situated along one of the busiest strip in Melbourne. The interior of the restaurant is relatively dull - with shades of dark red throughout. Nevertheless, the ambience was perfect for casual dining.

We started our lunch with Amigos Traditional Sangria or wine punch, and let me tell you - it is never too early for some alcohol with Mexican food. Surprisingly, the punch had really balanced flavors. I was worried that it might be a bit too bitter to my liking. On offer is also a range of Margaritas, if that is what you fancy.

For starters, we stuck to the basics - Nachos and the salsa that came with the corn chips tasted absolutely beautiful. I can tell right away that the salsa was freshly made. Not to be missed if you are a Nachos lover and there are 'meat'-ier options available too.

The main that we picked is something that I could never go pass when I am at a Mexican restaurant - Paella. And let me tell you this, Paella is not paella if it did not have that layer of crust underneath. This dish had everything, from mouth-watering presentation to big flavors and the layer of crust that completes the whole dish. The seafood was extremely fresh, which enhanced the balance of flavors. The serving size was surprisingly generous. A must-try dish.

The dessert, chocolate brownie (served on a hot plate) with two large scoops of vanilla ice cream was absolutely mind blowing. There is no doubt that this dessert is to die for. Each bite just melted in my mouth and had me begging for more.

Amigos is definitely one of the more popular choices when it comes to Mexican food. Good ambience for dining with family and friends. Service was very quick and everyone there is quite friendly. If you need help in choosing the right drink and dish, the staffs would be pleased to pass on some friendly advice. Bookings recommended for dinner time, private function area is also available.
